‘to advance public education and raise awareness…. and encourage appreciation of the life and work of Columbanus and knowledge of his historical and cultural heritage.’

Friends of Columbanus Fun Run/Walk

The Friends of Columbanus Bangor have announced their 5k Fun Run/Walk to take place on Friday 21st August at 7:00pm.

The aim of the fun run is to encourage families and runners to take part in an event organised to commemorate the 1400th anniversary of Columbanus’ death.

The event will take place in Castle Park and start at Bangor Abbey the place where Columbanus and his 12 colleagues left on their mission to Europe. It is hoped that the event will attract families and others who would not normally attend FoCB events and increase public awareness of Columbanus, Bangor Abbey and the towns Christian heritage.

While fancy dress is not required, there will be a prize for the best dressed Monk.

The event is open to everyone and we would hope that a large number of non runners will participate and they will benefit from the physical activity, enjoy the beauty of Castle Park and appreciate Bangors rich Christian history.
