Making Europe: Columbanus and His Legacy Project

You are cordially invited to the presentation of the three-volume series that marks
the completion of the Making Europe: Columbanus and His Legacy Project.

  • Date: Saturday 14th May 2022
  • @ 13:30 for 14:00 (a light lunch will be served at 13:30)
  • Location: St Comgalls Primary School, Brunswick Road, Bangor
  • RSVP: tourism.admin@ardsandnorthdown.gov.uk

The presentation is in honour of the fact that the 2015 Columbanus commemorations began with a conference in Bangor, Co, Down. Following in the footsteps of Columbanus himself, the next two conferences were in Luxeuil and Bobbio. Archaeological excavations, field schools and historical research were carried out in Ireland, France, Switzerland and Italy, creating its own legacy not only of scholarship but of lasting friendships.

Conor Newman (NUI Galway) will talk about the project itself, from inception to publication, alongside some of the discoveries and achievements, and the exciting legacy project that has resulted
