With proceeds from the recent Columbanus Festival in November 2025, Friends of Columbanus Bangor donated £350 to the Bangor and North Down Samaritans.  Deborah Girvan, Chairwoman of Friends of Columbanus explained, “We had record numbers attending some of the festival events which has allowed us to gather up a small amount of money through ticket sales.  We decided that we would like to support the Samaritans as they provide such a valuable and worthwhile service to help prevent suicide.”

John Whitcroft, Co-Director of the Bangor branch of the Samaritans said, “We are delighted to receive this kind donation from Friends of Columbanus Bangor.  The Samaritans are totally dependent on donations from the public and the money will be invested in supporting our volunteers to provide a human connection for people who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts.”

Christmas can be a lonely time of the year for some people. To contact the Samaritans, call the helpline on 116 123 (free from any phone) or 0330 094 5717 (local rates apply).
