Celtic Saints: A Journey Through Time and Tradition

Step into Ireland’s rich spiritual heritage at North Down Museum, Bangor on Saturday 7 February 2026 for an immersive afternoon inspired by two of Ireland’s most influential Christian figures, Saint Brigid and Saint Columbanus.

On arrival, enjoy traditional refreshments associated with Saint Brigid, including homemade pancakes, oatcakes and local honey. You will then be guided by Brigid Watson through the traditional craft of making Saint Brigid’s crosses. This hands-on workshop offers a meaningful connection to a centuries-old Irish custom, allowing you to create your own cross to take home.

The experience also explores the shared qualities and leadership of Columbanus—who spent around twenty years in the monastic community in Bangor during the 6th century—and Saint Brigid, another powerful and influential Christian leader of her time. Through their stories, reflect on their lasting impact and discover how their values and wisdom remain relevant in today’s world.

Learn a new skill, connect with history and help keep an ancient tradition alive.

The workshop costs £35 per person which includes refreshments and all materials required for the workshop.
