Mike King, former Curator of the Down County Museum, will lead a guided tour on Saturday 8 August of the Medieval Gallery in the Ulster Museum, which includes the early monastic period in Ireland. Mike is an expert on this period and will give the background to some of the exhibits including:

• 5th century Roman jewellery found at Murlough
• 7th century Clonmore Shrine, similar to one found in Bobbio (see attached photograph)
• Wooden artefacts from Deer Park Farm
• Early Christian metalwork from the River Blackwater hoard
• Celtic bells
• Shrine of St Patrick’s hand.

This is free for members and £5 for guests. Participants should meet in the entrance hall of the Ulster Museum at 10.45am for an 11.00am start.  After the tour,  you are very welcome to join the group for lunch (optional) in the Museum cafe.
